DESCRIPTION:Drones are the way of the future\, and it’s our current school students who will be in charge of flying and programming them.\n\n \n\nIn a bid to be crowned the regions’ next drone champions\, students from select schools are going head to head in the 2023 MindSET-do Tournament of Drones in Term 4\, hosted by UniSC Sunshine Coast.\n\n \n\nThe Tournament is a one-day event\, designed to test students’ teamwork\, problem-solving skills\, creativity\, technical flight skills\, and analytical thinking.\n\n \n\nThis is the first competition of its kind at UniSC and will provide bragging rights for one team as the champion of MindSET-do Tournament of Drones.\n\n \n\nWhile students will gain points across various activities during the day\, the deciding factor is often the problem solving task. It is based on the UN International Year of Glass. It will celebrate the many roles that glass plays in our lives – from phone screens to optical fibre to glassware in labs – plus investigating glass as a part of our sustainable future. The uses for and intrinsic nature of glass in science make it a suitable topic for investigation across all strands of science education. \nWe offer a curriculum linked\, interactive experience engaging year 10 students in quantum physics problem. DESCRIPTION:Maths Modelling challenge  \nEver wondered the maths behind how a pandemic spreads? Or the environmental impact of getting a lift to school? Or do you want to find out the link between climate change and your WhatsApp messages? \nPut your analytic brains to the test\, working in small groups students have four real world mathematics challenges to choose and work through. Celebrating mathematics and the spirit of competition\, this event aims to help high school students develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. \nThe challenge is open to year’s 7 – 12 with entries welcome from all teams across year levels. There are no minimum team requirements per school entry. Enter a class in all year levels or just one\, whatever works for you! Note that\, while in last year’s challenge year levels were restricted to one topic\, this year teams are free to choose from any of the four topics. SUMMARY:MIE Events Science and Engineering Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Due to popular demand places for the MIE Events Science and Engineering Challenge are now full! If you like information about our other STEM events please get in touch MIEEvents@usc.edu.au \n \nJoin us for the biggest MIE Event of the year! The Science and Engineering Challenge is a day-long competition designed to provide Year 10 (or Year 9) students with a positive experience of science and engineering. A maximum of 8 schools per day compete against each other at one central venue. \nEach school bring a team of between 16 and 32 students. Each school “team” is divided into 8 groups of 2 to 4 students. There are 8 activities to participate in. Each group will then do either one full- day activity\, or two half-day activities (i.e. one activity in the morning session\, and a different one in the afternoon session). Students are assigned a colour to identify which activity(s) they will do during the morning and afternoon sessions. \nStudents are awarded points for each activity and the school with the most cumulative points at the end of the day is declared the winner!
