Arduino Year 6 Teacher PD
Join us to learn about how digital technology such as an Arduino can be integrated into your classroom. In this course you will explore a 10 x lesson overview where Year 6 students investigate how electrical energy can control light in a designed product. The learning is linked to curriculum in Science, Digital Technologies and Design and Technologies.
The Year 6 lessons and resources can be accessed for free and give Year 6 students opportunities to learn how to develop their computational thinking skills, gain confidence in STEM activities and deepen their understanding of STEM subject choices at school and STEM careers.
A professional learning certificate is available when all the assessments are completed (mapped to the APST).
Course Content
- Welcome to the course – Year 6 lesson overview, Growth mindset, questions

- Welcome to the course presented by Natalie McMasterThis is the first section of the course which outlines how the course is structured and provides an overview of the structure, focus areas and curriculum of the Year 6 lessons.4
- Teacher Tool Kit presented by Patrick Bailey and Deb KelseyThis section is your teacher toolkit and you can come back to this section at any time to revise the key concepts of the course and the foundations of the School project.8
- Lesson 1 - Setting the Scene presented by Patrick BaileyThis section will explain the content and context for the lesson on controlling light which teachers are asked to deliver to their students prior to the 3 x Arduino lessons to set the scene.2
- Module 1 - Lesson 2 Electrical Energy presented by Patrick Bailey (feat. Deb Kelsey)During this module you will learn more about computational thinking skills, 21st-Century-Skills and how to build your own breadboard circuit using some material from your kit.6
- Module 2 - Digital Systems presented by Patrick BaileyDuring this module you will learn how to build upon your knowledge of breadboard circuits and begin to write in a programming language.6
- Module 3 - Flashing Lights presented by Patrick BaileyDuring this module you will have the opportunity to apply a culmination of your learning from the past two modules and show us the skills you have developed.5
