In collaboration with Education Queensland

About

We were excited to host some inspiring young female STEM ambassadors as part of the North Coast Regional STEM Girl Power Day. These girls are part of the year-long program from Education Queensland’s STEM girl power initiative.

The STEM Girl Power Regional Day is an initiative of ‘Advancing Education: An action plan for education in Queensland’. It aims to encourage girls to participate in STEM-focused activities and go back to school and inspire others in STEM.

The day was jam packed with inspiring talks and activities as well as a look around UniSC technology spaces.

UniSC researcher Dr Katrin Hohwieler, a conservation scientist, talked to us about koala tracking and careers in the ecology and research fields. Dr Erica Mealy, UniSC Lecturer in Computer Science, who took us through programming, coding and ethics of computer technology.

It was great to see these girls so engaged and eager to learn about STEM, they now go back to their schools to encourage other students to get involved in STEM activities.

A big thank you to everyone involved for making it such a great day!
